Get to know your executive – Nicole

Nicole is our President and has been since she helped start the guild in 2013.

MQG: How long have you been quilting?
Since 2007, when I took a “learn to quilt sampler class” at the Cloth Shop.

MQG: What type of machine[s] do you have?
I use a Husquavarna 2000, dating from the mid-60s. I also have my grandmother’s Husky from the 1980’s and a Singer Featherweight.

MQG: Do you press seams open or to the side?
Side.

MQG: Do you pre-wash your fabric?
Nope. I’m flirting with disaster I know.

MQG: What is your favourite colour? or colour combination?
Orange. Orange and blue. Turquoise and red. Black and white. Rainbows.

MQG: Where’s your hometown?
I’m more or less a Victoria girl but I wasn’t born here and I’ve lived in four different provinces as an adult.

MQG: What’s your day job, or are you retired?
I retired in 2007. I used to be a stage manager for opera and newly created dance works. I was also the Production Buyer for Bard on the Beach for six years.

MQG: Show us the last quilt you finished!
Hmmmm, this one?

MQG: What are you working on now?
Too many things….Making myself finish two large queens before I can start another one. A fabulous blue and orange scrap quilt (twin size). A bunch of smaller pieces.

MQG: What quilt is on your bucket list?
Don’t kick me out of the guild for these, but a Jack’s Chain. Definitely a Broderie Persé.

MQG: Favourite fabrics/designers?
Alison Glass and Carolyn Friedlander though I don’t have a single piece of their fabrics. Tula Pink for her use of colour.

MQG: Tell us something quirky about yourself! Or tell a funny story!
I get stressed out when stripes are oriented vertically AND horizontally. And I’m pretty obsessed with 2.5″ squares. LOVE THOSE SO MUCH!

Thank you Nicole for introducing yourself, and for volunteering for the guild!
