Pictures from the September meeting

Susan’s quilt from this summer’s Vivid Island Shop Hop. She did hers in black since all the other store samples were in white. Susan’s store is the Red Barn Quilt Shop.

Bonnie got all these blocks in a swap last year and wanted them to look like confetti. Well done!

Natalie made this just to practice her FMQ skills. Very well done!

Laura will be teaching this as a workshop class for the Victoria Guild. It uses rectangles, not triangles!

Esther made this mini quilt from Krista’s book, with Krista teaching it on the cruise in June.

Judy L. won the block lotto at the Nov. 2014 meeting. It used Cheryl Arkison’s slab technique.

Rita made this cheerful baby quilt, entered it in the Saanich Fair, and WON 2nd PLACE! Congratulations Rita!

Marilyn hasn’t been around for a few months so she took some time to update us on her award winning quilts. This quilt is in a bicentennial of the War of 1812 touring exhibit.

And this quilt has thousands of 1″ squares and is continuing to tour with various ruby jubilee exhibits.

And lastly, Marilyn is also a member of the Westshore Guild and won 1st place in their modern category this past spring. We (our guild) also awarded it a prize for best modern quilt.

Our prize was a swanky ribbon and a tote bag full of awesome. Marilyn told us later that she attended preschool in the Scout Hall back in the 50s.

Stacie whipped this pillow up in a day or two for the Cobble Hill Fall Fair.

And Stacie took an improv stitch and flip class with Susan McGregor. If you enlarge the picture you can see the super glittery sparkle thread she used.

Michele fussy cut some Lizzy House butterfly fabric and made wonky log cabin blocks for friend’s baby’s quilt.

Bev made this gorgeous quilt for her daughter as a picnic/beach blanket. It weighed a tonne because that is not quilting cotton, it’s all denim.  LOVE that pattern.

Toni with a super saturated quilt. Those colours are perfect for fall.

Rosalie was inspired by a shoe box (on the left) and made this quilt.

And she was inspired by a flying geese quilt someone else showed a few months ago.

Rosalie had a Mary Poppins bag that had so many quilts in it! This is a cute little turtle wall hanging.

And a Christmas village mini too.

And somehow this big quilt fit in the bag as well. Well done Rosalie!

Nicole made this for our guild to show at events. Try it, it works!

At our picnic in July we had an ugly fabric swap and the only guideline was to make something. We had 11 lovely entries come back for judging. Winners (viewer’s choice) were Nadia and Judy L. Nadia was given a 20$ gift certificate to Capital Iron and a Denyse Schmidt pattern and Judy was given a 15$ gift certificate to Satin Moon and a Denyse Schmidt pattern. Thanks to everyone who participated.
