May 2018 block lotto instructions

Inset Triangle block

This month we are making 4 mini blocks, instead of 1 big block.

Each mini block is 6 1/2″ square, and 4 mini blocks (not sewn together) makes up the block lotto.  You must make 4 mini blocks to equal 1 block lotto!

Fabrics you will need:

Black and white print fabric, and orange tone on tone fabric.

From each fabric cut: four 6 1/2″ x 2 5/8″ strips and six 2 5/8″ squares

The following instructions show making 2 blocks, but you will need to make 4.

Start by piecing your 2 5/8″ orange squares to the 2 5/8″ black and white squares, as shown.

Next add the side strips.  You should now have two blocks, opposite colour scheme.

Lay your blocks onto each other, right sides in.  Mark on the diagonal, and pin.

Now stitch a 1/4″ stitch on each side of the line you marked.  You can see this a bit more clearly on the orange fabric.

Now slice it on the line you marked.

Press each block, trim to 6 1/2″, and just like that you have 2 of 4 mini blocks done.  Simple right?

Once you have 4 mini blocks done, they should look like this when laid out.  Do not sew them together!

By not sewing the mini blocks together, The winner will have much more options for layout and colour variety.

But remember…

You must make 4 mini blocks to get one block lotto ticket.

Do not sew the mini blocks together.

Four mini blocks= one ticket, so make four, make eight, make a dozen.
