WORKSHOP: Sashiko Basics – An Introduction to Sashiko – with Barbara Gilbert – Registration now open!

This 6-hour workshop will introduce you to the ancient art of Sashiko hand embroidery. This technique can stand alone or be added to any quilting piece. Barbara will give the history of this Japanese blue and white embroidery and show some of the older pieces she has collected. You will work first on a small sample piece to master the sashiko stitch and then on a larger sampler to learn three different methods of transferring the designs and more of the sashiko stitch following a traditional pattern or design.

Various finishing possibilities will be discussed, and the application of piping will be demonstrated.

A full kit is included in the registration cost.  Bring only a pencil, pair of small sewing scissors and thimble if needed.
