Workshop: Kawandi with Arita Rai from the Vancouver MQG – Open for Registration!
A kawandi is a utility quilt made by the African Diaspora/Siddi community of India. Join Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild member Arita Rai who will share her knowledge of these quilts and lead this hand quilting workshop. Find her on IG @arquilters.
Kawandis are created improvisationally with small scraps stitched from the outside toward the centre in such a way that you piece and quilt simultaneously. In this workshop you will make a mini quilt incorporating the design elements of a traditional kawandi. Creating these hand stitched quilts can be very relaxing and mediative so pack up your hand sewing tools and favourite scraps and join Arita for a creative and relaxing few hours.
