Block Lotto – April 2022

Double Square Star

Unfinished size: 13 1/2” square

Colour palette – think Spring with pretty pastel mint green, pinks, light grey, pale pea green and a touch of navy. I used fabrics from the “Serenade” line from Riley Blake – you can look that up for colour reference.

Fabric requirements:

White solid for background – Two 2 1/2” strips W.O.F. cut into four 5” rectangles and four 7” rectangles.

Four pairs of matching 5” squares. Cut one square into four 2 1/2” squares. You will only use two of the 2 1/2” squares.

Assembly:

The block is made up of four quadrants, which are then sewn together.

To make one quadrant you need one 5” white rectangle, one 7” rectangle, one 5” square and two 2 1/2” squares that match.

  1. Start by snowballing the corners of the white rectangles. Pay careful attention to the sample for placement because they go in opposite directions.
  2. Sew the 5” snowballed rectangle to one edge of the 5” square according to photo. Then sew the 7” snowballed rectangle to the other edge of the 5” square according to photo.
  3. Repeat to make four quadrants.
  4. Arrange in a pleasing manner according to photo and sew together like a four-patch. Your block should measure 13 1/2” square.
