Block Lotto – February 2023

Anita’s Arrowhead

Unfinished 9″ X 9″

Fabrics – You will need two 8″ square coordinating fabrics with good contrast.

Sewing and Cutting:

  1. Place the two squares right sides together. Mark 2″ down from the top right corner, and 2″ up from the bottom left corner. Stitch along the 1/4″ seam allowance between these markings. You can either pivot at the corners or sew off and resume.
  2. Make a diagonal cut from the top left to the bottom right through all layers. Next, stack the two triangles you now have with the right angle on the left and the long edge on the right, making sure all the edges line up.
  3. Measure 2″ in on the left hand side and cut. Do not move! Then, measure up 2″ from the bottom and cut. Open all the units you now have and press to the dark side.
  4. Make a 4 patch for the centre by sewing the two pairs of squares together.
  5. Sew an arrow unit to opposite ends of the 4 patch, making sure the light and dark fabrics alternate.
  6. Sew an alternate triangle to each end of the remaining two arrow units.
  7. Arrange as shown in the photo and sew the rows together. Pay attention to the direction you press your seams so they nest together.
  8. Trim the block to 9″ square.
