Charity Quilt Sew-Along 2021
Come join us to make quilts for Q̓ʷalayu House in Campbell River!
We want to deliver a big pile of quilts in time for them to open their doors this Spring…AND..there will be prizes awarded at random to a few lucky participants!
Here’s all you need to know to join in the fun:
- Make sure you have access to your account on The Modern Quilt Guild website. You can find them here. If you need help with this, please contact us at mqgvictoria@gmail.com
- Login to your account and click the “For MQG Members” tab. Then click “Visit Resources”, in the search field enter “Quilts of the Month” to find a quilt pattern, or “Block Studies” to find a block pattern you would like to use for your charity quilt. The are many, many to choose from!
- IMPORTANT UPDATE: while we want to encourage our members to use “The Big MQG” resources that are available to them, we also recognize that many of you prefer to make your charity quilts from other patterns. We appreciate ALL of the quilts being made, and that is why we have now waived the requirement to use an MQG pattern to be eligible for prizes. As long as you are making a quilt to donate, you will be included in the monthly draws! Remember to let us know about your charity quilt so we can make sure you are entered.
- Follow along with the given timeline and post your progress to MQG Victoria Social Group on Facebook or tag us in your Instagram posts using the hashtag #mqgvictoria to be eligible for prizes! Not on social media? No problem! Email us your progress at mqgvictoria@gmail.com and we will make sure you are entered.
Timeline for posting your progress:
- February 1st – 15th: Show us your pattern and fabric pull.
- March 1st – 15th: Show us some of the blocks you’ve made, or part if your quilt top.
- April 1st – 15th: Show us your quilting.
- May 1st – 15th: Show us your finished quilt!
Other important details:
- Quilts should finish somewhere in the neighbourhood of 50″-70″ wide by 70″-90″ long. Please don’t worry if your quilt falls a little short of this! The charity has requested throw to twin sized quilts, so anything big enough to snuggle in will be much appreciated.
- MQG Victoria will not be providing materials, or reimbursing you for costs of materials, to make your quilt. It’s for charity, so we hope you will be happy to donate your time and materials for this worthy cause. That being said, we do have a limited supply of batting and backing if you are having trouble coming up with those yourself.
