2022 Block of the Month Sew Along – October Riffing on Tradition
Riffing on Tradition!
The prompt for October in the 2022 Block of the Month Sew Along is “riffing on tradition”.
This is where we get to ask “what if” and take a traditional quilt block then reimagine in any number of different way. For instance we might:
- Present the block deconstructed
- Repeat the block in a new and unexpected way
- Distort by stretching or elongating one or all of the the blocks elements
- Multiplying and/or stacking the block
- Maybe even blowing it up to super size!
Maria Shell, a gifted and award winning improv quilt artist, is a master of this concept and provides courses on the subject. Abundant inspiration can be found on her website as well as her blog Tales of a Stitcher. This particular blog post features a show case of her students work from her Riffing on Tradition workshop.
We can’t wait to see what you will come up with!!
