It has been a quiet August and we are looking forward to our September meeting in a few weeks.
A couple of quick announcements:
- September SEW IN! Sunday, Sept. 14th, 12-4 at Pearkes Rec Centre. 10$ to come and play – bring whatever you like! Email us to hold your spot.
- Our own fabulous Jennifer W. of Quilt As Desired has a new long arm studio and she is hosting an an open house to celebrate! It is Saturday, Sept. 13 from 1-4 pm. Everyone is welcome. There will be door prizes and light refreshments, so it should be fun. Check out her website for a map and address.
- Not modern but interesting: the Victoria QG is offering a two day workshop with Carol Seeley on 3D Imagery for Quilters, Wed. Sept 10 and Thurs. Sept 11. The cost is $150 for guild members (any guild) or $160 for non guild members. Please contact Pam Teasdale by email or phone 250.479.3149 to register.
And we had a picnic social for our August meeting. It was a smaller than usual turnout, but we had some fierce competition that night from another guild’s garage sale. Those that came had a swell time; here are some photos from the evening.

Stacie won half the BOM from the July meeting, and has a top already done. |
|
And she made this one as well. |

Terri S. showed us this very special quilt she recently acquired. It was made by her grandmother and has been loved to pieces in some parts. |
|
Lisa made this enormous project bag at a class. |
And we showed off our completed Michael Miller challenge projects:

And a group shot of the complete projects. |
We had offered a draw prize to those who showed us a completed project and Laura took home a Pat Sloan charm pack from the Calico Cupboard and a gift certificate to Gala Fabrics!
HST challenge blocks: the gauntlet has been thrown down, the bar has been set, the challenge has been issued. Ruth handed in an impressive 80 blocks, and was also the winner of the random draw for those who donated blocks at the August meeting. She won a F1/8th bundle of hand dyed fabrics donated by our own Terri S. Thank you Terri, and Ruth!
To round out our evening we played some games and swapped some fabrics. Many thanks to Stacie for arranging these and shepherding us through. We did a FQ swap of modern or solid fabrics and an ugly fabric swap – wow! One person’s ugly is another person’s beautiful. Some of us went home thrilled with our new fabric and well, some of us still have a metre of ugly fabric in our stash. Lastly we broke into teams and played a quilting term fill in the blank. Stacie has something planned for the winners (or losers?) at a future meeting.
The morning after the picnic Nicole dashed across the Straight to connect with lots of Pacific North West Modern Quilt Guilds. There were five guilds represented (Victoria, Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Seattle, and Portland) and on Sunday there was a guest star – Alison from Ottawa MQG.
