Block Lotto – September 2022
Hugs & Kisses block
Unfinished size: 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″
Pretty in pink! This easy block would make a lovely baby quilt. Think soft, baby pinks – no fuchsia, garnet, hot pink, or too orangey-peach. No batiks. We will make the “O” block only
Fabrics:
- White solid background – cut eight 2 1/2″ squares. Draw one diagonal line from corner to corner on each one.
- Assorted prints in soft baby pinks – cut four 6 1/2″ squares
Sewing:
- Take one print square, and two of the white squares.
- Place (right sides together) one in the top left corner, with the diagonal line running from bottom left to top right.
- Stitch on the drawn line.
- Repeat this with the second white square but this time place it in the bottom right corner, with the diagonal line running from bottom left to top right (the same as the first white square).
- Stitch on the drawn line.
- Trim and press the seams towards the print fabric.
- Repeat with the remaining 3 print squares and 6 white squares.
Joining:
- Place the squares as shown in the photo.
- Join the top two, then the bottom two, making sure your seams line up nicely.
- Press the seams open.
- Then join these together to finish the block.
- Press this seam open.
- Check your final measurement, it should be 12 1/2″ square.

The next MQG Victoria meeting (October) is on Zoom, so there won’t be a draw for the Block Lotto. Hang on to your blocks until the November meeting. Each block will earn an entry into the Block Lotto. Winning ticket takes home all the blocks!
Make one, make two, make lots!
Happy sewing, Diane
