December meeting wrap-up

Our December meeting Christmas/Hanukkah/Solstice party was rousing success! We shared treats, oh so many treats! We showed and shared, we swapped mug rugs, collected our pouches to send to the Maritime MQG, and we did some of the usual: Block Lotto, door prizes, fun.

Here (at last!) are the photos and details from that fun night a few weeks ago.

The Winter snowflake block winner was our newest member Grace!

The January block: the Disappearing Hourglass! Tutorial is at the link.

If you want a potluck done right, ask the Victoria MQG how to do it.
Check out this bounty!

Just some of the bevvies!

And on to the show and shares:

Pam’s pouch for the swap, including a lovely needlecase and scissor holder.

Stacie’s pouch for the swap

Lisa W.’s pouch for the swap

Nancy’s pouch for the swap and some extra handmade goodies

Patricia’s pouch for the swap, and a lovely embroidered ornament

Gabrielle started this quilt for her dad as a Christmas present. He’s a sailor, hence the nautical semaphore flags. The back (on the right) spells his name.
Gabrielle ‘s pouch for the swap, and the most incredibly detailed needle book.

Judy L. made a lot of pillowcases to send over to the KEYS.

And her pouch for the swap with a tiny card wallet as well.

Sarah decided this was the year to finally have a tree skirt. The gold and black is all hand painted which she thought might be faster than appliqué (ha! she told us).

Kimberly’s quilt for her son to use at daycare.

And her pouch for the swap.

Jennifer H. looking serious about her pouch for the swap.

Kim showing a handmade bit to go in her pouch.

We think this is Lisa D. and her cool triple-zip pouch for the swap.

Jennifer W.’s pouch for the swap.

What swap? We did a zippered pouch swap with the
Maritime MQG.

Cathy showing us the table runner she made using our Uneven Stacked Coins tutorial and her free fabric from the Michael Miller challenge this past summer.

Terri S. showed two sets of mugs she made as gifts for friends. (They are actually all individual but Terri pinned them together to show them better).

Rosalie showing a small piece.

And Laura showing a large quilt made for her dragon loving son.

Laura with a 241 tote bag.

And this was a mounted art piece Laura also made for her son.

Ruth with a mini piece.

And Ruth showed these two sock creatures made under the direction of her young grandson.

Lois showed this simple but lovely zig zag quilt.

And Lois showed this SUPER king size quilt wonderfully quilted by Jennifer W. Recognize the pattern? It’s our tortilla strips block lotto!

Geri showed us this table runner,

and a stack of mug rugs for co-workers’ gifts.

Nicole’s pouch for the swap.
Nicole made this mini with the Michael Miller Pastel cotton/QuiltCon challenge. It was not accepted into the show (even though Nicole literally shed blood for this one).

And a super mini quilt made for her daughter’s preschool “Dexter the Fox” travelling stuffie/mascot. Yes, it did get finished and bound for the next morning!

Dawna’s pouch for the pouch swap.

Dawna’s nifty quilt, a present for her daughter.

Guest Carli is travelling away from home and doesn’t have many quilts to show us but she had this one, a crazy quilt from her days BEFORE modern quilting changed her life. It was great to have you with us Carli!

Remember at the November meeting how Daria sold a
box of fabric all by donation? She used the money to buy this
fabulous bunch of socks for the kids at KEYS. Thank you Daria!!

Some of the smashing pouches now en route to the Maritime MQG!

After show and share we opened up our mug rug and mug presents to us.

This was our first time making something for each other, and it won’t be the last. Well done everyone!

At the end of the meeting we have some door prizes which are generously donated by our local quilt and fabric stores. Please thank them if you are in their store! This month’s prizes and winners were:

Cloth Castle gift certificate and fat quarter – Sue M.

Sawyer’s pattern and thread pack – Laura

Sawyer’s pattern and thread pack again – Judy F.

Satin Moon gift certificate – Thea

and for our HST Charity Challenge the winner was:

Gala Fabrics gift certificate – Lee

In the spirit of Christmas/Festivus we also had a re-gifting opportunity! The winner of a previous block lotto donated the blocks back to us to choose a new winner. The winner was LEE! (and by a great co-incidence she had made one of the original blocks).

Thanks very much everyone. We hope you had a lovely holiday season and we wish you all the very best for 2015. See you at the January meeting next week, Thursday Jan. 15th.
