January block lotto – Circle of Friends block

This month we are doing the Circle of Friends block, and using the excellent tutorial from the Emerald Coast MQG.

Here is our colour palette though:

This block is based on the 9-Patch layout and even though it looks complicated it is very simple! All nine units are the same size, but colour placement in the units creates an illusion of a circle.

Layout diagram. Their block was SCRAPPY. Ours is not.

You will need:

8 2.5″x2.5″ squares of focus fabrics in our colour palette.
• Background fabrics in WHITE cut:
  • 8 – 2.5″ x 1.5″ rectangles (for units A)
  • 8 – 4.5″ x 1.5″ rectangles (for units A)
  • 4 – 2.5″ x 2.5″ squares (for units B)
  • 4 – 4.5″ by 2.5″ rectangles (for units B)
  • 1 – 4.5″ x 4.5″ square (unit C)

For the instructions:

NB: their lotto rules are different than ours so just skip that part and look at the instructions.

Your block should measure 12.5″ when you’re done.

And as always with our block lottos, one block = one lotto ticket, so make one, make two, make lots!
