Make it Modern challenge quilts
Earlier this year we were invited to have a display at the Victoria Quilters’ Guild show. We gave our members the following guidelines: size to be between 18″ and 25″ square, only use solids, and re-interpret a traditional block in a modern way.
This is what our members came up with.
Anne, “The Big One,” house block/bargello
Barbara, “Nine Patch Cubed,” nine patch
Grace, “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t,” chevron
Jay, “Free Flying Geese,” flying geese
Judy, “Sun and Waves,” drunkard’s path
Kate, “Maude,” log cabin
Lois, “The Devil’s Claws,” the devil’s claws
Mary, “PriMary Out of the Blues,” flying geese, drunkard’s path
Natalie, “Flying Geese,” flying geese
Netta, “Flower Burst,” starburst
Nicole, “Grey Goose and Gander/Waft Your Wings Together,” flying geese
Nicole, “Grandmother’s Shady Garden,” English paper pieced hexagons
Pam, “All the Pretty Colours,” four patch, half square triangle, pinwheel, triple rail

Ruth, “Stairway to Heaven?” Jacob’s ladder
Sarah, “Graffiti Geese,” flying geese, paper piecing

And the winners chosen by our audience that evening! Dinky Doo Fabrics sponsored generous prizes for these quilts.
