Block Lotto – October 2019
It’s pumpkin time! This month we have a wonky log cabin pumpkin that is really fun to make. Three or more of these big blocks sewn together would make an awesome fall table runner too.

WONKY LOG CABIN PUMPKIN
Unfinished size – 12 1/2” X 14 1/2″
Fabrics and cutting –
Lots of orange print scraps cut into strips 2 – 3” wide, can be tapered. You will need about 16 per block.
A small scrap of green or brown for the stem, about 2 1/2” square
White solid – one strip 2 1/2” wide by 12” long plus four 3” squares
Construction –
Start your log cabin with a square of about 2”. Continue adding strips around the square in log cabin fashion, making it as wonky as you like.
You can press every few strips. I went counterclockwise. Go around and around until you get a block that is big enough to square up to 12 1/2”.
Then add your white squares to the corners to “snowball” the block.
To make the stem, cut a scrap of green or brown whatever shape you like but 2 1/2” tall, and piece it in your white strip. Make it land wherever you want on the top of your pumpkin, it doesn’t have to be in the centre. Sew this strip to the top of your snowball block (see photo)
These are so fun to make, you’ll want a whole patch full!
