Welcome to the April meeting and the Scout Hall! We had more space than we’ve ever had before and that was wonderful. Almost as wonderful as the quilts, our lovely members, and our amazing guest speaker this month.
We’re still figuring out the optimal setup but we know we’ll get it perfect next time. |
We had the funny and knowledgeable Vikki Agate, art teacher from Shawnigan Lake School do a talk on colour theory and elements of design.
And we had show and share by our members. Now a quick note about the pictures: Lana pointed out that while the preschool room was crowded and had tiny chairs, it did have great lighting! We’re figuring out improvements for future, but in the meantime, enjoy.

Barbara used our “Framed In” block from last summer to make these placemats and table runner. |
Donna with the back (L) and front (R) of another fresh quilt. |
Marg (L) and Thea (R) travelled to the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup and share a couple of highlights. The Chihuly glass museum was especially inspiring! |
Gabrielle made this lovely ribbon for us to present to the best (in our opinion) Modern Quilt at the recent Westshore Quilt Guild show. Thanks to Westshore for allowing this opportunity to support modern quilts in your guild, and well done Gabrielle! |
We knew Gabrielle has the mad skills to make this so lovely. |
Kimberly showing a baby quilt. Love those subtle curves! |
Ruth quilted and finished the quilt she made during the slice and insert workshop with Katie Pedersen last month. |
Lois with another fabulous quilt. |
Another Lois quilt. This one used a really cool technique/pattern the name of which escapes our memory at this point. |
Anne with her butterfly quilt, modified from the Hope Takes Flight pattern from Kaufman. The link takes you to the free pattern. |
Detail of the quilting. Anne is a talented longarmer, and she is quilting three! of the HST quilts for KEYS for us. Thank you Anne (and all the other quilters too). |
Margaret used the slab blocks she won in a previous block lotto, back (L) and front (R). |
Rima showed this little block with a cool technique. Each strip has three pleats in it into which she put a coloured bit of fabric. Those are then stitched down and then the columns sewn together. Up close it was really interesting. Do us a tutorial Rima please? |
Rima also made this little pouch bag from two FQ and a bit of cleverness! |
Janelle with another great quilt. |
Back of Bethany’s triangle quilt. |

Front. |
Sarah showed us this mosaic quilt she started AGES ago, but then she gave up in frustration. After seeing some of Katie Pedersen’s quilts last month she was inspired to do THIS instead: |
And she did lots of different dense FMQ patterns everywhere. |
Newest member Lourdes brought this amazing wall hanging she made using lots of hand dyed fabrics. Welcome to the guild Lourdes! |
Detail. |
Christine showed this fantastic modern quilt. |
And the back! |
Another quilt from Christine. The quilting on this one was pretty great too. |
And that’s the end of the April meeting wrap up. We hope to see you at our next meeting, Thursday May 21st at Scout Hall. We will be welcoming Krista and her quilts and her new book – hope to see you then!
This is all so exciting. I wish I was there, but you'll see me again in Oct or November.
