Pictures! from the January meeting

Here are the pics from our January meeting. Enjoy!

Our disappearing hourglass block lotto! The new block is the “Circle of Friends”. Link and colour palette is here.

Our library books have arrived and been catalogued!

Baby Olivier cuddled by his proud mama Danika. Olivier is three months old now and came to his first meeting at only two weeks!

Terri S. showing more mug rugs.

And her baby quilt that she totally modified and adapted from a pattern.

This is Jo-Anne’s quilt she made at the Joe Cunningham/Patricia Belyea workshop last November. Jo-Anne is a born story teller and had us all in stitches throughout.

And then she realized that her quilt was upside down!

That’s better!

Heather made this super baby quilt using triangles on a roll and 505 spray for extra precision!

Gabrielle showed the “Large Hadron Collider” quilt all finished. She started it mere days before the December meeting but had it finished for Christmas morning.
Gabrielle loved this month’s block lotto and the colour palette so much she made an entire quilt for herself. Note the gradation of intensity across the quilt.

And lastly she showed an antique modern quilt. This was made for Gabrielle’s mom by Gabrielle’s great-grandmother.
Check out how modern these fabrics look!

Diane B. had her first show and tell (but not her first quilt!); it’s a shop sample for Capital Iron (Sidney).

Ruth with a small art piece.
Barbara showing a quilt for her niece. Never one to do things by halves, Barbara INSET all the large circles, but appliqued the small circles. The pic on the right shows the detail from the back.
Grace won the block lotto at the December meeting and had this top to show us a month later!
Kathleen showed this super simple and SO soft baby receiving blanket.
Lynn had this lovely quilt to share.
Esther had this cheerful and lovely quilt.
Mary Anne shared this nautical mini; she made it to co-ordinate with a gorgeous woven basket made by a friend. It was her first time being called an ARTIST, and that was so exciting. Yay Mary Anne!
These three quilts are (L-R) by Jennifer W., Patricia, and Jan. They are in a small sewing group together and made these all from scraps.

Kimberly showed this quilt for her oblivious daughter (Kimberly made it IN FRONT of her daughter who didn’t realize it was for her!).

And this hand stitched mini quilt. Worked on during conference calls at work it’s finally finished! And if you were at the very first meeting of MQG Victoria, Kimberly showed it then in progress.

Lee made this pouch for our swap with the Toronto MQG.
Rima showed HER FIRST QUILT! Way to go Rima!!

Newest member Katherine showed this top, from Alison Harris‘ pattern Suburbs. This was Katherine’s first time at MQG Victoria. Welcome Katherine!

Thea made two pillow cases to send over to KEYS.

Marg showing her great pouch for the Toronto MQG pouch swap.

Which made a nice segue into the rest of the pouches we’re swapping with Toronto.

Jen H. with her pouch.
Pam with her pretty pleated pouch.

Laura with hers.
Tami with hers (nice use of Tula Pink fabrics Tami!)
Last call for Show and Share:

Guest Pam from North Van made this after seeing Krista Hennebury’s selvedge quilt at the Lion’s Gate Quilter’s Guild show last year. Krista is doing our trunk show and workshop in May. Info for that is here.

Detail shot! The how-to tutorial is HERE.

Guest Netta showed her super quilt “Who Started the Wave?”

Then we had door prizes – thanks as always to our wonderful local shops. They support us, so let’s support them!

This month’s prizes and winners were:

Cloth Castle template – Rosa
Kaleidoscope Fabrics – Cheryl H
Gala Fabrics gift certificate – Sharon
Capital Iron fat quarters – Susan
Laura donated a hanging organizer she had won from Sawyer’s and the new owner is Margaret N.

Our guest-only prize this month was a
Satin Moon gift certificate – Pam of the selvedge quilt!

and for our HST Charity Challenge the winner was:
Calico Cupboard charm pack – Thea

Cheryl T. won the block lotto!

Somebody won the 50/50 draw but we can’t remember who the lucky person was! Prize was around $65 and the guild half of the money goes to the charity quilt project to pay for batting, backing, etc.

Thanks so much everyone for making each meeting an exciting evening. Next meeting is Thursday, Feb. 19th.
